Educational Philosophy
Early childhood is such a unique and precious time in a persons life. Students come to school eager to absorb information and learn about the world around them. I strive to provide the absolute best program appropriate for this specific age group. The curriculum includes a lot of hands-on exploration, exposure to early science and math concepts, music, and art. I also have a strong focus on alphabet and phonetic awareness, pre-reading and reading skills. I have degrees in both Elementary Education and Special Education from Utah State University, and taught in Murray School District where I received extensive training in teaching reading. Now that I teach preschool, my focus is on Kindergarten readiness with a goal of having each child reading before Kindergarten.

I have begun priority enrollment for current students for the 2013-2014 school year. Priority enrollment will last until February 10, at which point I will open enrollment to everybody.

*In the past I have had separate classes for 3 year-olds and 4 year-olds, but I have found that students' ability levels are not so clearly defined. I also believe that many of my 3 year old students would have benefited from the extra 15 minute time slot that I had allocated for dedicated reading instruction in my 4 year old class. Therefore, I have decided to hold two sessions, both 2 hours and 15 minutes/day, and both open to 3 and 4 year old students.

Policies and Procedures
CLASSES AND ELIGIBILITY: Preschool is available for students who are at least three years old by 9/1 of the preschool year. Each student must submit a completed registration form accompanied with a $40.00 non-refundable registration fee. This will guarantee the student's place for the upcoming school year. Students must be able to use the restroom facilities independently.
TUITION: Tuition for preschool is $85.00 per month (4.5 hours/wk). Tuition is due the first preschool day of each month. A $10.00 late fee will be charged after the tenth of each month. Tuition is standard for each month and will not be adjusted or prorated because of sickness, vacations or holidays.
HOLIDAYS: Preschool will follow the same calendar of holidays as the Canyons School District. Holidays will be clearly marked on your child's monthly calendar.
BACKPACKS: Each child will need to bring a backpack or book bag to school each day with the child's name clearly marked on it. The students will bring their work home in their backpack. Please take the time to go through your child's backpack, look at their work and encourage your child to tell you what they are learning. This will help them know that what they do in school is important.
FIELD TRIPS: Field trips will be scheduled twice a year. Please make sure you sign the release form to enable your child to participate in these field trips. If you choose not to have your child participate in the scheduled field trips, please let me know. Parent volunteers will be used to transport students to and from the field trip and to help with supervising. All parents are welcome and I appreciate your help in making field trips successful! All drivers need insurance and working seat belts. If you want your child to sit in their car seat you will need to bring it to school on field trip days.
DROP OFF/PICKUP: Students may be dropped off and allowed to walk into preschool themselves. Please make sure they are safe inside before you leave. I will walk students out to parents' cars at the end of class. Let me know if someone other than a parent will be picking up your child. Also, let me know the driver schedule for any carpools.
ILLNESS POLICY: If children are sick they should not attend school. Please be mindful of others. I will collect their work and send it home the next school day for the child to complete. If a child gets sick while in school I will contact the parent. If the parent cannot be reached I will call the emergency contact person they have listed on their registration form.
